Helping Our Community Access Healthcare

Wheels for Wellness Indian Head Inc. is a registered non-profit corporation incorporated under The Non-profit Corporations Act, 2022 (Saskatchewan). We exist to promote health by providing residents of the Town and Rural Municipality of Indian Head and surrounding area with reliable and accessible transportation to attend medical appointments, treatments, and other health-related services.

We relieve conditions associated with illness and aging by facilitating access to healthcare facilities, rehabilitation services, and community wellness programs. Our dedicated team of volunteer drivers use their own time and energy to ensure no one in our community misses an important medical appointment due to lack of transportation.

How It Works

Booking a ride is easy. Here's everything you need to know to get started.

Call to Book

Call or text 306-660-9677 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. After hours, leave a message and we'll call back in the morning.

Confirm Details

Our dispatcher will confirm your appointment, pickup address, and let you know the suggested donation amount for your trip.

Get Picked Up

Your volunteer driver picks you up at your door, takes you to your appointment, waits, and brings you back home safely.

Donate & Go

Pay the suggested donation at the end of your ride. You'll receive a receipt for medical expense deduction purposes.

Affordable, Accessible Transportation

Wheels for Wellness operates on a suggested donation model. If you are unable to make the suggested donation, please advise our dispatcher when booking and we will see if we can make payment arrangements for you. No one will be turned away for inability to pay.

Everything you need to know about using the Wheels for Wellness service.

There is no set time. Please book as far in advance as you possibly can, but if it is short notice — and we understand that it could be — we will do our very best to accommodate your request.
Yes, you can bring a walker as long as it fits in the rear hatch of the van. Wheelchairs can be accommodated by prior arrangement with the dispatcher — you will need a companion to assist with loading/unloading and transfers, as the vehicle is not equipped with a wheelchair lift.
No, you do not need a doctor's referral to use this service. However, you do need to be medically stable and be able to get in and out of our vehicle by yourself.
The final decision to go or not will usually be made by the driver. However, if the Highway Hotline says "travel not recommended," drivers will have been instructed not to drive. Our policy is always safety first.
Yes, if prearranged and at the discretion of the driver/dispatcher, we can stop for prescriptions related to your medical appointment or other health conditions.
If that is when your appointment is, we will do everything in our power to accommodate your request.
Yes, we will come back and get you. It will be considered two trips and you will be asked to donate accordingly.
Medically required companions ride free with your suggested donation. However, non-medical passengers are not permitted, as we need to honour the expectations of our donors and sponsors.
No, our drivers are wonderful volunteers and do not accept tips. If you wish to donate extra to the organization, we will be happy to accept that and add it to your receipt. Please remember to thank your driver!
Yes, if you have a Service Animal, they can ride for free with you in the van to your appointment. We are unable to accommodate support animals. Please let the dispatcher know at the time of booking.
All of our drivers, board members, and other volunteers have signed confidentiality agreements, as the privacy of our riders is our top priority.
No, for local rides please call the Town Office at 306-695-3344 for information regarding the Handi-bus which offers this service.
Yes, we will take you to the airport if you have to fly somewhere for medical reasons, and we will pick you up on your return. It will be considered two trips.
If you are unable to make the suggested donation, please advise our dispatcher when booking and we will see if we can make payment arrangements for you. No one will be turned away.
Yes, you can bring portable oxygen in the van, always adhering to necessary safety precautions.
No, the driver will be assigned by the dispatcher depending on availability.
Yes, the driver will provide a receipt for medical expense deductions. For charitable donations of $50 or greater, a charitable tax receipt will be provided through the Town of Indian Head.
